Visitors to Bride: The Wedding Show at Westpoint found themselves on the cover of South West Bride magazine

Visitors to Bride: The Wedding Show at Westpoint Arena in March 2019, flocked to experience their five minutes of fame as cover stars of South West Bride magazine.
The experience was offered on the second day of the two-day show, by Exeter-based South West Photo Booths, an exhibitor at the event who collaborated with the Bride team to offer visitors their chance to shine. And, as editor of South West Bride, I was first in line (before the show opened on Sunday morning).
Putting my nervousness of having my photo taken aside, I figured this was my one and only chance to be a cover star, so I headed over to see the team. Standing in front of the iPad, I was given a handful of confetti and talked through what to do… the result, a fun, confetti shot for me to keep, sent to my mobile phone.
And, I wasn’t the only one who wanted to be a cover star, every time I passed by during the day there was another visitor in front of the camera.I spoke to owner Ben Westcott about the confetti shot experience: “South West Photo Booths is just one half of what we do – and that’s all about having a good time. So when we were approached by Bride about offering an experience, we thought how best to approach this.
“As the area was surrounded by covers of the magazines, I thought this would be a great approach – it’s a service we offer our corporate clients to raise brand awareness and direct customer traffic. It’s great if a client wants to promote a particular product, for example we did one for a duty free customer in an airport. As travellers entered duty free they were offered a free sample if you had your picture taken and then took this over to the client at the other end of the building to collect their free sample – driving traffic to that particular area of the building. Likewise we did one for a tool company, who offered the chance to win an iPad if people shared their images with a particular hashtag.
“It would normally take more than a week to set up something like this, but when I saw the covers surrounding the area, I thought we should be able to replicate that in the time we had and we did.
“It was important to us to do something to help promote Bride and the show – after all, our stand had all our information about our photo booths and we didn’t want to spread ourselves too thinly, by taking anything away from that.
Established in 2014 by Ben and business partner Chris Collins, South West Photo Booths, based in Exeter provides photo booth hire all over the South West.
Ben says: “Our first wedding was actually with another Bride: the Wedding Show exhibitor, The Wedding Wishing Well. Since then, we’ve covered more than 1,000 weddings.
“We offer four enclosed booths, a magic mirror and three types of open booths – similar to the experience we provided at Bride: The Wedding Show. We go to a lot of shows all over the world looking at photo booths and their technology and although the rest of the world seems to have moved on from the enclosed booth, for us they are still the most popular.”
If you’re looking at hiring a photo booth for your big day then Ben has a couple of tips:
“Make sure you choose an established business and they can give you an example of what it is you’re getting. Once the service is gone you can be left with hundreds of photos – there is a difference in quality and service, so take this into account if there is a difference in price. If a deal seems too good to be true it probably is.”
