“We are starting to see ladies going for a simpler gown with less focus on lace than there has been over the past few years. For 2020 we think pleats and stripes will be making an impact, together with more beautiful boho, rustic inspired looks.” Pretty Smithy Bridal

“With our gowns, we always stick to classics with a modern twist. The last thing a bride wants to do is, in five years’ time, look back at her photos and not like the trend she followed. Of course there are daring brides out there and brides who want to be different, so that’s where colour comes in…. You can give a traditional dress a modern edge just by going for very on-trend silver greys and dark champagne colours that we are seeing come through.” The Bridal Box

Types of weddings

“We have seen a definite rise in the popularity of elopement ceremonies. These are small, intimate weddings with sometimes only the couple and these can be held almost anywhere.” Simply Bespoke Ceremonies

“DIY weddings are big at the moment, with people wanting their wedding to feel personal and bespoke. Benedict’s Bar lends itself to this with the feeling of being a self contained beautiful bar.” Benedict’s Bar

“We are seeing an increasing preference for pre-and post-wedding celebrations with the bride and groom, whether a dinner, informal get-together, a beach day with barbeque or maybe a spa day or cruise on our Sunseeker motor yacht. Given our location, we see a growing demand for more relaxed beach-themed weddings and with the often Mediterranean hues of the ocean, we are a very sought-after alternative to a wedding abroad; hence the new creation of our Ocean Venue.” Carbis Bay

“Tweed remains a firm favourite with our grooms and we have recently introduced a new range of three-piece tweed suits, available to buy or hire. Vintage colours are still proving very popular such as rose pink and blush and every season we see new colours being introduced. We also have a beautiful selection of Liberty print ties and accessories which can be handmade to order and have been hugely popular through this last wedding season. We work within a great support network of suppliers to hopefully be able to offer what you are looking for.” Jonathan Hawkes

“The top trend for 2019/2020 is all about the soft colours and lots of foliage, boho chic style with hanging décor. We are always on the ball with trend forecasting and always look ahead to bring fresh ideas to our customers.” Divine Flowers

“In terms of wedding décor, the top and emerging wedding trends are:

  • Rustic furniture and bars
  • Blossom trees and greenery
  • Hanging floral displays

“Social media is a good source when you are looking for inspiration and wanting to keep up-to-date with the latest fashions. Instagram is great when you are looking for more stylish inspiration, Facebook wedding groups will help you to find local suppliers or just enable you to talk with people who are willing to give their advice, and Pinterest is a good way to build your mood board and collect ideas for your own special day.” Themes Inc

“Albums seem to be making a comeback which is just wonderful. I think people have realised it is so special to have a tangible product to look through; the cover finish, the paper and the beautiful images all evoke emotions that viewing on a screen alone cannot replicate. I’ve made sure I can offer gorgeous albums with a variety of finishes to suit different budgets. The more traditional linen or leather covered fine art albums are becoming more popular, as are the addition of lovely smaller copies for parents.” Maxi Photography

“Smaller selfie type booths are now becoming more common and we already own two. We monitor the industry closely and want to supply the latest in photo booth technology.” West Country Photo Booths

“Gin is still huge, rum keeps trying to come through and little vintage vans are popping up. The key thing to do is try and offer that bit more; we try and bring a few extra touches at no extra charge to add to what we offer, and to make the whole thing entirely bespoke so you are getting something original just for you.” Gatehouse Trailer Bar

“Active and exploration honeymoons are very popular right now. Exploring the culture of Vietnam, the jungles of Costa Rica or cruising the Arctic – whatever you can imagine.” The Destination Lounge
